A FORMER prisoner who was jailed in 2016 after a firearms stand-off with police in a quiet Ross-shire community was back in court this week for being in possession of gun parts and cartridges.

Andrew Mould was jailed for a year in December but got early release.

On Tuesday at Inverness Sheriff Court, the 49 year-old admitted on August 15, 2017, within five years of his release, being in possession of five shotgun cartridges, a gun barrel and silencer at his home, The Caravan, Old Free Church, Caloundra, Shiel Bridge.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald deferred sentence until July 24 and told Mould all sentencing options remained open.

Armed police officers subdued Mould with a taser during the stand-off at the caravan near Shiel Bridge on September 1, 2016.

Police were called by his relatives who were concerned for his safety after he threatened to self-harm. Mould was renovating the church with his sister at the time when he called her saying he was depressed and someone should "come over and take my guns off me".

An armed response team was after Mould made threats to harm himself with various weapons including a 9mm pistol, a claw hammer and a bayonet.

Residents were removed from the area and Mould was told by armed police to come out.

He produced a firearm from behind his back when he came out but went back inside. He later emerged from the caravan and threw out two firearms with a knife visible in his waistband.

He then complied with instructions to throw the knife onto the ground.

But he had to be tasered when he became incoherent and refused to follow instructions to kneel down.

The court heard that officers were prepared to use their weapons if he couldn’t be subdued due to the risk he posed. He was tasered twice and handcuffed before being transferred to hospital.
