Donald Macphee, known as DJ, died this week as tributes poured in for the Loch Ness footballer and former Highland Boxing Academy boxer.

As a mark of respect, the North Caledonian Football Association have confirmed a minute's silence will take place at all league matches this week.

Loch Ness Football Club released a statement saying they had lost a great friend.

They said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our player Donald Macphee.

"DJ was more than just a player and a teammate at Loch Ness FC, he was our friend and we are all better off for having known him.

"Our sympathies are with his family at this difficult time."

Inverness Athletic, who Macphee previously played for, also paid tribute to their former player.

They said: "Inverness Athletic were shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of former player DJ Macphee .

"The thoughts of everyone at Inverness Athletic are very much with DJ’s family, friends and everyone at Loch Ness at this incredibly hard time."

Macphee was also a boxer at Highland Boxing Academy and was the club's first ever champion.

HBA released a statement saying: "DJ was pivotal in putting HBA on the map during our clubs first ever season (2011/12), where he boxed at all three stages of competition securing the Mens 64kg Scottish Novice Title at Meadowbank Stadium.

"Although DJ has not trained at the club for some years now his pictures and newspaper articles are still there to be seen on our walls of our gym.

"Having had only just spoke DJ on Saturday night at professional boxing show in Inverness this news has came as a shock to us all.

"On behalf of everyone at Highland Boxing Academy we would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his family and thank DJ one last time for representing the club so successfully and helping to put HBA on the boxing map."
