A PHARMACIST from Strathpeffer is completing an epic sponsored swim to raised funds for a local hydrotherapy pool.

Fiona McLean is swimming the distance of the English Channel to raise funds for the charity the Puffin Pool in Dingwall which offers specialised therapies to aid pain relief.

Ms McLean said the pool is a great local facility and needs to be maintained: “A hydrotherapy pool, a lot of patients who live elsewhere, won’t have access to anything like that, so it’s great that we have a local facility”.

The charity provides assessment and treatment for people of all ages in the Highlands in a bid to speed up rehabilitation after injuries and operations or to ease pain in long term conditions.

Hydrotherapy can help ease the pain of those suffering from conditions which affect joints, bones, muscles or the neurological system.

The Dingwall pool is currently raising funds to replace and upgrade their original plant and equipment.

As a pharmacist, Ms McLean said she knows the benefits that the hydrotherapy pool can offer patients.

“I hear direct from patients that people benefit from the pool and it really can turn things around for them, help making them more mobile and makes such a difference,” she explained.

Over the course of February Ms McLean will swim 22 miles at Dingwall Leisure centre swimming pool.
