Nestled in the romantically rugged beauty of the north-west Highlands, Badachro Distillery has captured the hearts of spirit lovers at home and away with its exceptional range of small-batch artisan gin, whisky and vodka.
The family-run Wester Ross distillery, established by husband-and-wife team, Gordon and Vanessa Quinn, five years ago, shares its passion for this unspoilt corner of the Highlands with spirits made from water drawn from the nearby loch and locally foraged botanicals, giving fans a genuine taste of the land.
Authenticity ‒ and love ‒ are very much at the heart of Badachro Distillery.
“Everything about our spirits is very authentically connected to the north-west Highlands, whether it's the whisky and the water, the botanicals, the local labour ‒ that’s what our brand is all about; the romance of the Highlands, the clarity and purity of the air, the weather, the sea…” explained managing director Gordon.
“It’s stunningly beautiful and genuinely remote. It’s that wilderness aspect that makes it so special. Consumers can enjoy a piece of that in their own home.”
The distillery’s range features three core spirits, with each representing a different characteristic of the village they are made in ‒ from Badachro’s labelling which feature a sketch of the Torridon mountains as seen from the distillery to the Bad na h-Achlaise whisky series, named after the nearby loch from which the water is drawn.
Five gins ‒ Badachro, Coastal, 57° Storm Strength, Raspberry and Orangey Orains – provide a taste of the land and the coast around Wester Ross. Utilising a bouquet of botanicals foraged from around the distillery, the team capture the uniqueness of the area.
Dancing Puffin Vodka represents the playful side of the village, and its cheeky puffin mascot has become a firm favourite with vodka fans around the world. The charaterful spirit provides a fun and festive tipple for vodka drinkers, and captures the warm welcome of the Highland town and its inhabitants ‒ feathered and non-feathered alike!
And the distillery’s whisky showcases the rich heritage of the Highlands and the whisky distillers that have called it home for centuries.The signature Tuscan oak expression in the Bad na h-Achlaise series is a medium-peated single malt that’s become popular the world over.
In 2023, the distillery will be launching a new rum which will be named after another local landmark ‒ but that’s strictly top secret for now!
Badachro spirits can be enjoyed all year round but for some extra festive sparkle try the sloe gin or the spiced winter gin, featuring warming spices including cinnamon, star anise and cloves.
The distillery exports to 12 countries around the world including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and Bermuda, and is about to start exporting to Taiwan and Australia.

Pop in to the pop-up at the Eastgate Centre this December!
And just in time for Christmas and Hogmanay, the team is coming to the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness in December with the return of its hugely popular pop-up shop bringing the full range of spirits to try and buy as well as hand-made gorgeous gift packs which proved such a hit last year.
The pop-up shop will be located on Eastgate’s upper floor from Sunday, December 18 right through to Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24, and open during the centre’s operating hours.
Gordon added: “Visitors can taste and buy the range of spirits, and chat to the team. There will also be beautiful hand-made wrapped gift packs available to buy, complete with description cards inside. They were so popular last year and make great little gifts.
“It’s a great way to talk to our local customers and not just to tell them about us but to hear about their experiences. People often tell us how they use our products in a winter warmer, or a martini ‒ cocktails have become really big. A lot of people have interesting ways we never thought of using our drinks.”
