THE SNP has named its candidate to contest the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency seat during the next Westminster general election.

Karl Rosie has been elected by SNP members to stand for the seat.

Thurso born and educated, Mr Rosie is currently a councillor for Highland Council's Thurso and Northwest Caithness ward and works for Highland and Islands MSP, Maree Todd. He previously worked in the nuclear and oil energy sectors before entering politics.

"I am thrilled to have [an] opportunity to stand for the SNP in this brilliant constituency," he said. "I intend to build on the campaigns that I have progressed as a Highland councillor with communities to redesign health and social care, support business, community development and the renewables industry to address these issues."

The seat is currently held by the Liberal Democrats' Jamie Stone.
