AN advertising campaign has made a real splash after using an image of the Balintore Mermaid.

A photo of the beloved statue has been delighting visitors to Edinburgh after it featured on a number of trams in the capital as part of CR Smith’s "window to Scotland" campaign.

And the leading home improvements firm has now created a special version of the image for use in Balintore’s Seaboard Centre after the campaign’s use of the mermaid went viral online.

A picture of one of the trams bearing the image of the statue was seen by nearly 9000 people on Facebook – generating a real boost for Balintore’s profile. And in recognition of that success, the company has now created a special 1.3m tall aluminium laminate poster for use in the community’s café building.

Volunteers and staff at the Seaboard Centre recently received the special delivery from CR Smith’s Jony Sutherland, from Brora.

A grateful Lynda Durrand said: "We were absolutely delighted to see that CR Smith had used our beloved mermaid statue in the campaign and to see it featured on the trams in Edinburgh.

"A friend of the Seaboard Hall who photographed this on one of the trams and posted it on our Facebook page has seen that post reach 8744 people, quite remarkable considering the population of our village is around 1400.

"We are very proud of our mermaid and now to have our own poster ‘from the Royal Mile to Balintore’ to display outside the hall is tremendous."

She added: "It was also a delight to meet Jony, who travelled to Balintore to deliver the poster.

"He was really impressed with what we are doing here and I think our mermaid has another fan."

CR Smith is a privately owned business and one of Scotland’s leading home improvements company.

It employs more than 400 people in a range of fields, including manufacturing, installation, sales and customer service.
