Police have issued a smoke warning to householders after fire broke out in a large hay shed near the village of Muir of Ord.

The blaze was at Highfield this morning, with the alarm being raised just before 3am.

The smoke warning from the police was for people living in nearby Marybank.

A Police Scotland spokes person said: "People are being advised to keep their windows closed due to smoke in the area."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent four units to the scene - one from Beauly, two from Dingwall and one from Inverness.

The fire was brought under control about 8.18 am but a unit from Invergordon and another from Fortrose remain at the scene dampening down smouldering hay.
