A SICK dog led to a 36-year-old Alness man being handed a six-year motoring ban after admitting his sixth driving while disqualified offence.

At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday (Thursday), Christopher Murray of Westford, was also ordered to carry out 210 hours of unpaid community work after he pleaded guilty to driving while banned and without insurance in Alness on March 18.

The court had previously been told that he had an unwell dog and it couldn't get in the car.

So he went to the vet to ask for a home visit and it was on that journey that he was stopped by police.

The dog subsequently died after being sedated and taken to the vet surgery, the court heard.
