A HOMECOMING hero who won two medals at the Tokyo Paralympics was in for another silver surprise at a special celebration in Strathpeffer.

More than 100 people turned out to welcome local lad Fin Graham at an outdoor gathering in the village square.

The cyclist, who was born with two club feet and has no calf muscle on his right leg, not only realised his dream of competing but returned with two silver medals and was, for a short time, a world record holder.

His inspirational exploits thrilled followers across Ross-shire and far beyond, amongst them pupils at his former schools of Strathpeffer Primary and Dingwall Academy, both of which he has visited.

At a celebration organised by Strathpeffer Community Council on Saturday, Fin was tickled to see a 'silver' post box decorated in foil to mark his achievement.

The community now hopes to persuade the Royal Mail for permission to let them paint the traditional red box silver – echoing the celebrations witnessed across the country during the London 2012 Olympics.

More than 100 people attended the gathering as Fin answered questions and was presented with a celebratory cake.

Ron McAulay, community council chairman, said: “We are all very proud of Fin.His achievements are quite remarkable. To win one silver medal is marvellous but to win two and smash a world record is just incredible."

He said the community wrapped the local post box in tin foil to commemorate Fin’s achievements and hope to persuade the Royal Mail to let them paint it silver.
