A ROSS-SHIRE mum-of-three battling cancer has had to postpone potentially life-prolonging treatment after falling ill with a serious infection.
Lucy Wilson travelled to top London hospital The Royal Marsden earlier this week with high hopes of starting a free London trial for special immunotherapy drugs.
However, she was told to go home and return in three weeks, by which time a course of antibiotics is expected to have done its job.
The Evanton mobile hairdresser, whose battle with endometrial cancer has sparked an ongoing £28,000 community fundraising campaign for immunotherapy treatment at a private clinic in Germany, said she felt crushed by the cruel twist of fate.
In a message to hundreds of followers on Facebook, she said: "Fed-up is a understatement. On antibiotics again and on way home. No immunotherapy for three weeks. I’m gutted."
Ms Wilson’s fundraising drive, called The Lucy Wilson Fund, has raised around £20,000 and gained a boost last week.
An article on the front page of last week’s North Star inspired The Pat Munro Foundation, set up by the Alness ready-mix concrete supplier, to donate £2000.
