DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 1325 prime sheep.

New season lambs (698) averaged 223.6p (+3.5p) and sold to 254.4p per kg for a pen of 46kg Texel crosses from The Dell of Killiehuntly, Kingussie and £120 gross for a pen of 55kg Texels from Moy Bridge Croft, Urray.

Feeding sheep (627) sold to £171 gross for a pair of Texel ewes from 38 Lodgehill Park, Nairn.

The verdict: “The lamb trade continued from last week’s uphill curve and were slightly dearer for a plainer show forward. There were plenty of lambs up to weight but lacking flesh today, which hindered the overall average. Another fantastic number of ewes for this time of year were forward and many a fresh face appeared in the vendors list. Trade was sharper with not a lot of meat around and many more could easily have been sold.”
