Sheep and cattle sale prices at Dingwall Mart today

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd today sold 16 prime cattle.

Prime bullocks (1) averaged 246p (+11p) and sold to 246p per kg and £1,488.30 gross for a 605kg Limousin cross from Groam, Kirkhill selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

Prime heifers (15) averaged 241.9p (-4.6p) and sold to 251.0p per kg for a 515kg Limousin cross from Groam, Kirkhill selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall and £1,527.50 gross for a 650kg Charolais cross from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall.

The mart also sold 1285 prime sheep.

New season lambs (657) averaged 223.3p (-0.3p) and sold to 240.0p per kg for a pen of 45kg Cheviot Mules from Hatton Cottage, Dallas selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall and for a pen of 47.5kg Beltex crosses from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin and £119 gross for a pen of 50kg Beltex crosses also from Kinnahaird Farm.

Feeding sheep (628) sold to £139 gross for a Texel ewe from Lower Gaich, Dulnain Bridge.

The verdict: “Lamb trade was comparable on the week with more top end weight about. Best heavy sheep met a firm enquiry and many more could easily have been sold. Another grand number of ewes forward saw all classes similar on the week with less weight about. Anything that was fleshy returned grand prices to vendors and were short of buyer’s requirements”
