The A9 was closed this morning following a three vehicle collision in Sutherland.

The crash happened between Dornoch and Golspie, four miles north of Dornoch not far from The Mound.

The emergency services were alerted about 8.28am with police, ambulance service and fire and rescue unit from Golspie and Dornoch attending.

There is no information regarding injuries so far, but the fire service said they did not have to use any equipment at the scene.

Traffic Scotland described the collision as "serious".

Diversions are in place via the A949 Clashmore to Lairg road and then Lairg to The Mound via the A839.
