SEPA’s highest level of alert – Severe Flood Warning – is in force for an area running from just outside Aviemore to the New Spey Bridge.

It indicates there is a “danger to life” from very high water levels on the Spey and is the only one of its kind issued across the country.

The warning stated that low lying properties and access roads in areas around Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge “along the Spey Valley from Aviemore to Grantown are expected to flood.”

It comes after a weekend of heavy rain fell across much of Scotland with conditions set to deteriorate over night and into Sunday before easing off later in the day.

The severe weather led to travel disruption, cancelled trains, mud slides and serious warnings that conditions are not just autumn rains.

“Low lying properties and access roads along the Spey Valley from Aviemore to Grantown are expected to flood, including in the areas around Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge.
