The society handed over £2000 to the charity which provides mental health support to people across the Highlands.

Ross Sutherland Seniors Golf Society recently handed over £2000 to Mikeysline, the funds having been raised by its members who also belong to a number of affiliated golf clubs – Alness, Fortrose & Rosemarkie, Invergordon, Muir of Ord, Portmahomack, Strathpeffer, Tain and Ullapool as well as Royal Dornoch, Bonar Bridge and Brora.

The society, which aims to provide help and support for their members’ physical and mental wellbeing through golf, exercise and simply coming together, has now raised more than £40,000 for local charities since they were founded in 1983.

Mikeysline is a service open to all people of all ages across the Highlands and Moray.

Receiving its latest donation, Mikeysline’s fundraising manager Katie Melville said: “This generous donation to Mikeysline by the Ross Sutherland Seniors Golf Society is so welcome, especially at a time when the cost of living crisis and the coming winter are already increasing demand for Mikeysline’s services and support.

"The society’s emphasis on looking after the physical and mental wellbeing of their members is lovely to see.

"Regular exercise and maintaining an active social life is a great way to promote good mental health, and the society does so well to provide that for their members.

"I hope their members have all had a fabulous season of golf and we look forward to working with them in the future.”

Ross Sutherland Seniors Golf Society Captain, Ian McCree, said: “Our golf society members are so pleased to support Mikeysline in the vital range of support they undertake right across the Highlands for all ages and we realise how important it is to have friends around through the good and not so good days.

"Ross Sutherland Seniors Golf Society hold a stableford golf outing at each of the affiliated courses mentioned above from April to October each year (usually on a Wednesday) and although our playing numbers have been down slightly this last year we have returned to a full fixture card once again after the pandemic and it’s been a great golfing year.

"We not only appreciate the participation and enjoyment of our members but also the help from the golf clubs concerned in allowing us to play their courses and continue to donate surplus funds to worthwhile charities in the Highlands.

"We are currently able to take in new members and guys who enjoy their golf and who are 60 or over and members of one or other of the affiliated courses can find more information and contact details on the Ross Sutherland Seniors Golf Society website which gives contact details for the appropriate golf club representative.”
