Ullapool Sea Savers received support from Tesco as they trialled the scheme aimed at reducing coffee pod waste. It proved a great success for the environmental campaigners.

Ullapool Sea Savers bagged-up the final 71 bags of coffee pods to be recycled, as the highly-successful scheme comes to an end.

The multi-award-winning child-led environmental group, Ullapool Sea Savers, first introduced their coffee-pod recycling point in Ullapool Tesco back at the start of 2023. Since then, the scheme has grown astronomically. The Sea Savers then bag the coffee pods and send them to PodBack who recycle them into new materials.

However, the Ullapool Sea Savers are a victim of their own success, as they are receiving so many coffee pods to be recycled that the Podback return delivery system can't cope with the quantities they wish to send. For this reason, the environmental group have decided to "wrap up" this particular project.

But it's not all over for those looking to recycle their pods – locals will now be able to pick up a Podback bag from Tesco, and recycle their own pods one household at a time.

The Sea Savers said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to Tesco Ullapool for hosting our wee collection point and to everyone who has used the system. Together, we have well and truly shown that there is a significant need in our community for an effective, usable recycling system for these pods.

"Unfortunately, we have proven this so effectively that the Podback return delivery system cannot actually cope with the quantities we're trying to send, and we are now going to have to wrap up this project.

"We'll dispatch these last 71 a few at a time into the system, but from now on we'll be asking people to pick up their Podback bags from Tesco and recycle the pods one household at a time.

"Thanks again to everyone for their support!"
