A designer has unveiled her new Pride of Dornoch ladies’ tartan which she said was inspired by Scotland’s national thistle emblem.

The striking tartan is predominantly pink with hues of purple, green, blue and cream.

It is the fifth tartan to be designed by Yvonne Macrae, who runs a retail shop, Tartan Creations, in Dornoch.

She said: “We already have four tartans – the first one, called Heart of the Highlands – was designed six years ago.

“They have all been designed for our exclusive use and woven by Scottish tartan manufacturer Lochcarron of Scotland, who are located is the Borders.

All five tartans are also registered on the Scottish Register of Tartans.”

Ms Macrae decided to create a Pride of Dornoch tartan after opening her retail outlet.

“We wanted to celebrate taking the business forward by adding another new tartan to the collection,” she said.

“So many folk admire the choice of thistle wallpaper we have used in the shop and we took the inspiration from this and the Scottish thistle for our latest design.”

She added: For the last eight years I have predominantly made a range of ladies tartan and tweed accessories which we sell online and in the shop along with a range of other Scottish designers clothing and gifts.

"I hope we have created a Scottish experience for the visitors to our quaint shop which has its own courtyard .”
