ScotRail says there will be unspecified delays on the north Highland lines this morning

Passengers travelling by train on north Highland routes will be hit delays this morning with heavy rain forecast across the north-west of Scotland.

ScotRail has imposed speed restrictions for drivers on services between Inverness, Wick and Kyle of Lochalsh.

It is asking customers to check services at National Rail Enquiries ahead of travel, but warned of unspecified delays in journey times.

A ScotRail spokesman said: "Because of heavy rains, trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

"Disruption is expected to last until 12:00 today."
