Applecross Community Council is looking into turning the Church of Scotland church building at Camusterrach into a community hub.

PLANS to turn a Wester Ross church building into a community hub look set to take a significant step forward next week.

Applecross Community Company (ACC) have recently given an update on the plans to acquire the Church of Scotland church building at Camusterrach to create a Community Hub.

On a post on Facebook ACC shared : "The Board of ACC propose to acquire the church and put it to immediate use as an office for ACC and AppleNet, as well as making storage and workshop space available to the community.

Following that, funds will be raised for the long-term renovations; adding hot-desks and office spaces, a “library of things” and two one-bed apartments (one for long-term and one for short-term let).

These plans support ACC’s strategic plan, ensures the building is financially viable and does not overlap with other community spaces."

This comes after the completion of a feasibility study into community ownership of the interested building and an open day organised in January.

ACC members will be asked to vote on this proposal at their forthcoming AGM on Monday, April 26 at 6.30pm.

A favourable vote would lead to an application to the Scottish Land Fund in May 2022 for the financial support to acquire the building.
