A very special event is being planned at the mart.
A very special event is being planned at the mart.

FREE tickets for Dingwall Players’ special production of A Highland Nativity at the town’s auction mart are available from Monday.

Last year’s lockdown meant the drama group couldn’t stage its annual Christmas show – but it is now “planning something quite different and very exciting”.

The show, from December 16 to 18, promises a family friendly excursion “with music, comedy and animals” and “a much-needed opportunity for the community of Dingwall to come together to celebrate Christmas – regardless of faith, belief or religion”.

Two performances, on Friday and the matinee on Saturday, will be livestreamed to local care homes. Others can watch on the Players’ Facebook page if they can’t make a physical performance.

With support from Highland Council Dingwall and Seaforth ward discretionary fund, performances are free – but tickets should be booked in advance at www.dingwallplayers.org which will also have further details of what is planned .

Dingwall Players will stage a version, written in verse, of the Nativity (including the highly comic Shepherds’ Pageant) in December in Dingwall Auction Mart. The production, suitable for all the family and with a good helping of music, comedy and animals, will be a much-needed opportunity for the community of Dingwall to come together to celebrate Christmas – regardless of faith, belief or religion.

Two performances, on Friday 17th and the matinee on Saturday 18th, will be livestreamed to local care homes. The live stream will also be available to anyone anywhere through Dingwall Players Facebook page.

A Highland Nativity’ will based on 15th century Medieval Mystery (or Miracle) Play Cycles. These cycle of plays (York, Coventry, Chester and Wakefield being the best know) were based on the bible stories and enacted by various guilds and crafts around the town.

With support from the Highland Council, Dingwall and Seaforth Ward Discretionary Fund we are able to make all performances free – but tickets should be booked in advance at www.dingwallplayers.org.

There is ample packing at the Mart. The Mart is a short walk from Dingwall Town Centre but, courtesy of Don’s Taxis a free minibus service will leave from the High Street outside Dingwall Town Hall at 7pm and 7.15pm for the evening shows and 2pm and 2.15pm for the matinee, and returning after the show.

Wrap up warm and come as a sheep by wearing a sheep hat or making a sheep mask – go to www.dingwallplayers.org for ideas on how to make one...
