Pet owners are being urged to be aware of a new scam.

Warnings have been issued about a scam circulating in Scotland which targets the owners of missing pets.

The fraudsters claim to be calling from a vet.

They state the missing animal has been found but that it needs immediate treatment and payment is required upfront.

The new scam has been highlighted by Perth and Kinross Council Trading Standards team.

Speaking yesterday, a spokesperson said: "If you receive a call like this, hang up and call the vets on a number you know for them.

"Do not give your bank or card details to anyone who cold calls you."
