TREACHEROUS conditions on some Ross-shire routes has left a number of households without a bib collection today.

Heavy snow and icy conditions have made some roads virtually impassable.

Highland Council said that due to severe weather conditions it was not able to collect bins in Achiltibuie, Polbain, Altandhu, Reiff, Achnahaird and Inverpolly today.

It posted: "We will return as soon as we can. Please take care in these winter conditions and apologies for any inconvenience caused."

Earlier this morning, the council said that three to four inches of snow had fallen overnight in Wester Ross with sub-zero temperatures. All routes were being treated, "but extreme caution is still advised".
