KIND-hearted residents are being urged to help ensure families across Easter Ross don’t go hungry this festive season.

The Rotary Club of Tain and Easter Ross is once again organising its annual Christmas Hamper food collections, ready for foodbanks to distribute them to residents who might be struggling.

“Christmas is a wonderful time for most families, a time when they can meet up, have fun, exchange presents and enjoy special meals together,” said a rotary spokesman.

“However, for those living alone and those families where unemployment or hardship has been knocking on the door or a parent is recovering from addiction, it can be a time of fear, sadness, loneliness or worry.

“For some households it is a question of eat or heat!

“During our 10 years of existence, we have collected tinned foods and packets of dried goods plus treats during November and then made-up Christmas hampers which have been distributed anonymously for us by the charity operating the Tain foodbank.

“This year we believe we can do much more and are asking your help.

“Our ‘patch’ runs from Alness to Ardgay and this year we aim to make up many more hampers and bags of essential foodstuffs and ‘goodies’ which will be distributed via the Foodbanks serving Alness, Invergordon, the Seaboard Peninsula and Tain and District.”

If you can donate something, the rotarians will have a number of collection/drop-off points across Easter Ross where people can leave donations for us.

Any donated goods must not have a “use by” date that pre-dates December 31 this year.

“Whether you are a business, a group, or individuals we will appreciate your help and support and gratefully receive your donations so we can reach out to as many households as possible, via the Foodbanks,” they added.

The locations where you can drop off your food donations are:

  • Café Tomich, Invergordon
  • Crazy Horse, Invergordon
  • Easter Ross Vets, Invergordon
  • Alness New Pharmacy, Alness
  • Easter Ross Vets, Alness
  • Royal Hotel, Tain
  • Meikle Ferry Caravan Park
