Firefighters have managed to extinguish a large wildfire in Ross-shire.

The blaze was on Knockfarrel Hill, between Dingwall and Strathpeffer, and the alarm was raised shortly after 11am yesterday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that fire crews were able to leave the scene around 2pm on the same day.

They were tackling the fire in an open area of gorse on two fronts – one was around 600m long and the other measured 800m in length.

On Monday SFRS issued a warning of an extreme risk of wildfire in many parts of the country including the Highlands.

At this time of year, in early March, there is a lot of dead grass and heather left over from last year which can dry very quickly, the service says.

People who live, work or visit rural areas were urged to exercise caution.
