Local groups in Ross-shire have benefitted from another successful year of funding from the EDF

Renewables Corriemoillie Wind Farm Community funds.

More than £40,000 has been awarded to a wide range of local groups, to support community activity and help improve community facilities. EDF Renewables provides funding for several community benefit funds in the Corriemoillie Wind Farm area.

Corriemoillie Strathpeffer Community Fund has supported a number of local clubs with grants to buy new equipment to keep their activities going and to help maintain their facilities.

Strathpeffer Bowling Club, Indoor Bowling Club, Golf Club and Community Rowing Club all received awards for a range of practical items from specialist lawnmowers and indoor bowling mats to sails for a traditional Ness Yoal boat.

An award was also made to the Community Development Trust to help local volunteers support the Ukrainian refugees who are based in the village.

Strathpeffer Residents Association received two awards totalling £6000, towards the cost of footpaths and noticeboards for the community park.

The footpaths are now built and already providing access to the green space to help with future projects and creating a safe off-road link in the community.

Contin Community Fund supported a diverse range of community projects in 2022 ranging from updating equipment for the new hall, support for the community newsletter and a tool store for Highland Trail Riders volunteers to secure their tools for mountain bike trail maintenance. An award of £3,000 was also made to Contin Parish Church to contribute to the cost of a compost toilet on Contin Island. Contin, Jamestown and Tarvie Projects also received £1,885 to organise activities and social events to bring people together.

Fairburn Memorial Hall received a grant of £4,500 to organise a programme of outdoor, healthy and creative activities for children and adults to improve well-being. Local children also benefitted from Marybank Primary School Parent Council’s project which was awarded £3,443 to fund trips and outdoor activities.

Scatwell Community Association received an award of £850 to buy equipment for community events.

EDF Renewables, Director of Asset Operations, Piero Maggio said: “Seeing our funds enhance community activity and facilities is always a fantastic news story, particularly at this time of year. The range of projects feel like everyone from the local community will benefit somehow from our fund and that gives us a lot of festive cheer indeed. Congratulations to all the recipients who work so hard to enhance their local community.”

Groups working to benefit people in the Contin Community Council area can apply for grants of up to £3000 from the Contin Fund.
