Gairloch High School didn't let the end of an unusual term pass without celebration and held a week-long virtual prize-giving to celebrate students' hard work.

Highlighting the academic and extra-curricular achievements of pupils, prizes were awarded for subjects across the school in addition to citizenship, sport, music and service to the school.

By holding the prize-giving via social media platforms and the school website, more than 8000 people, including family and friends from across the world, engaged during the week.

Many took the chance to offer their congratulations upon reading or hearing more about each prize-winner.

The event also allowed several other important occasions in the school calendar to be marked.

There was an inspiring speech from retiring English teacher Dr Belinda Brindle, a celebration of those leaving the school after their S6 year and the announcement of the new school saptains, Lucy Hildrey, Maisie Baptist and Kienan Hewitson.

The Dux of School, along with prizes in piping, music and Gaelic, was awarded to Eòin Cumming. Headteacher Mr Wim Chalmet was able to visit Eòin and his family in Laide to present him with the trophy.

He said "Eòin is multi-talented, always determined and a pleasure to teach. His hard work for many years has been rewarded as he moves on from us to Plockton Music School for next term and we wish him all the best in the next steps in his life."
