Best wishes to former Dingwall Academy pupils and staff member gearing up for Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as Finn Crockett, Jake Henry and Melanie Woods line up for Team Scotland

A ROSS-SHIRE secondary is celebrating the achievements of former pupils and a teacher as the Commonwealth Games gets under way today.

Dingwall Academy former pupils Finn Crockett and Jake Henry are both involved in the event in Birmingham.

Former teacher Melanie Woods has also been selected for Team Scotland.

The school said: "We are so delighted and proud to see all three athletes selected for Team Scotland and wish them all the very best for their first Commonwealth Games."

Finn Crockett has been moving up the gears in the world of pro road cycling, signing with Team Ribble Weldtide Pro Cycling this year. He has nothced up some impressive results, winning the Rutland Melton Classic, an elite international road race over 183km. He was leading the National Road Series at one point and now currently lies fourth after Round 4.

Finn goes in the Men's road race which takes place on Saturday, August 7.

Jake Henry plays with Southern Knights in the Super 6 and has already claimed several caps for the senior Scotland Men's 7s team on the World Series.

The rugby competition at the Commonwealth Games takes place from July 29 to 31. Scotland have been drawn in pool B against South Africa, Tonga and Malaysia.

Melanie Woods, a former PE teacher at Dingwall Academy, competes in T54 wheelchair racing for the Red Star Athletics Club in Glasgow. Her rapid progress in the sport saw her selected for the 400m and 800m at the Tokyo Paralympics last year.

She competes in the T54 1500m which takes place on Tues, August 2 during the morning athletics session.
