Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team extends life-saving capabilities with RR3 water sled

THE ability of volunteers with a lifeline rescue service to move members, casualties and equipment across water has been dealt a charitable boost.

Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team operate in a vast area of rugged mountains with a team of around 35 available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help anyone in difficulty on the hills, mountains or crags in an area spanning more than 2600 square miles.

The team is amongst 18 groups getting a share of £50,000 from The Barrack Charitable Trust in its latest tranche of donations.

Established in 2009 by Knight Property Group founder and chairman James Barrack, it has given the Dundonnell team £2457 towards purchasing a RR3 water rescue sled.

Gary Butler, fundraising officer from Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team, said: "The donation will help to ensure that DMRT continues to be as well-equipped as it can be, to respond to the wide variety of call outs that it attends in the mountains and elsewhere."

"The funds were used to purchase a water rescue sled which will provide the team with the capability to cross fast-moving water. The rescue sled will improve safety, speed and comfort for all involved.

"The team has recently concluded a programme of familiarisation training in the use of this important piece of rescue kit and the feedback has been really positive.

"As well as needing funds to purchase specialist rescue equipment and vehicles, the team relies on donations to cover day-to-day running costs. We would like to thank The Barrack Charitable Trust very much for their generous donation.”

James Barrack said: “We are truly humbled by the work undertaken by all the charities and grateful that we are able to offer support. Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team is providing valuable and much-needed services in the Scottish Highlands and we are proud to support them.”

The Trust is solely supported and funded by Knight Property Group. It aims to assist organisations cope with the decrease in charitable donations for specific projects due to the economic climate faced at the time. Over the years, the Trust has donated more than £1.2m to over 200 registered charities throughout Scotland.
