Six children and young people champions and champions for older people have been appointed by Highland Council, amongst them three from Ross-shire.
Councillors Lyndsey Johnston (Black Isle), Pauline Munro (Cromarty Firth) and Chris Birt (Wester Ross, Strtahpeffer and Lochalsh) are the children and young people champions, while councillors Isabelle MacKenzie (Inverness Millburn), Thomas MacLennan (Fort William and Ardnamurchan) and Bill Boyd (Inverness West) are older people’s champions.
Champions are individuals who are willing to work together and use their influence to promote the interests of their specific area. A core part of the role is to effect change which will see local lives improved.
While children’s champions have been in place within Highland Council for some time, the roles of older people’s champion are new.
