VISITORS to three Wester Ross beauty spots are to be invited to pay a donation for parking under a new Highland Council scheme agreed by councillors.
At last week's meeting of the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh committee, members gave their support to a new initiative in their ward which will see visitors being invited to pay a donation for parking at key locations.
Invitation to pay machines will be introduced at the following sites across the ward:
Latheron Lane in Ullapool; Gruinard Beach; Gairloch Harbour; the upper car park at Kyle of Lochalsh; Plockton and Dornie.
Currently, council-regulated car parks generally ban overnight stays by motorhomes.
In tandem with inviting visitors to pay for parking, designated bays for motorhomes will be identified and drivers will be able to pay a modest fee in specific council car parks for a maximum stay period of 24 hours.
The three locations for motorhome short stay parking will be Latheron Lane in Ullapool; Gruinard Beach and Plockton Airfield, giving access to Coral Beach.
Over the next few months ticket machines that give the option to take payments by cash or card will be installed in each selected car park along with signage inviting payment.
