Cromarty-based internet service provider Calico UK has been acquired by Hostworld.

Having operated in the area since 1994, the service it provides will now continue through its new owner who took the business over last month.

Hostworld owner Darren Summers is looking forward to this new venture in the Highlands.

He said: "Hostworld has taken on Calico because we're looking to add to our ever-increasing shared hosting and domain offerings.

"The Calico brand is reputable and established, making it a good fit for our current workforce and network. I saw an opportunity to continue the work of the previous owners and to make improvements by providing customers with a more convenient and modern approach to hosting services."

Making sure that customers are treated with a personal and relational approach is important to Mr Summers, and he hopes to continue the good work that Calico has been doing.

Explaining more about Hostworld, he said: "We have a brilliant reputation with our current customers. It has always been a focus of mine to ensure that as the Hostworld brand grows, we continue to provide a level of support that stays clear of the usual complaints that customers have of larger hosting companies.

"None of our customers will feel like a 'number'. I have customers I know on a personal level that I have worked with for nearly ten years. Some have been customers of my brands for over 20 years."

Calico customers will receive the same support options that are currently offered by Hostworld, including telephone and email support.

Staff who work at Calico are also being retained, which was an important aspect in acquiring the business for Mr Summers.

"One of my main priorities was to continue to work with the current Calico employees", he explained.

"I am happy to announce that staff who worked with Calico are now working alongside the Hostworld team – this is something that was important to me.”
