A ROSS-SHIRE gym is in the running for a national award after emerging stronger from the pandemic.

KCT Community Fitness has been shortlisted as functional gym of the year in the 2021 National Fitness Awards and Chris Stratford, who owns and runs the gym alongside sister Kimberley, is delighted with the accolade so early in the business’s history and after lockdown forced its closure for several months.

The gym opened at Dingwall Business Park in January 2019.

A former personal trainer, Mr Stratford said: “We’re not even three years old and to be shortlisted for such an award has been phenomenal, especially coming out of the last 18 months.”

He said the business had emerged from the Covid crisis stronger, with more members, the addition of another full-time staff member and one part-time coach, and upgraded equipment.

“It’s great that we not only navigated the situation well, but that we grew as a business,” he said.

“It has allowed us to take things to the next level. We invested in new equipment, but we also looked at our operations and how we could run the gym better.

“I think having a health pandemic made people realise that they have to look after themselves a bit more.”

The brother and sister take a more personal approach to their clients than many other commercial gyms, drawing up personal training plans for each of them.

“We know what their goals are and can get them to where they want to be by pushing them in the right direction,” Mr Stratford said.

The awards will be held on November 26.
