Sheriff Gary Aitken heard the case at Inverness Sheriff Court.

A Muir of Ord man was banned from driving for life after admitting a series of charges of getting behind the wheel after taking cocaine.

Calum Findlay of Broomhill Road, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted that on various occasions last year he drove while his body contained a metabolite of cocaine indicating he had taken the drug.

Sheriff Gary Aitken told defence solicitor Graham Mann: "The charges are all depressingly similar but I suspect they speak for themselves. He is in a very difficult position, Mr Mann."

Adressing Findlay the sheriff said: "You need to stop driving when you have taken drugs and you would think that having been stopped (by police) before you would know that.

"This is an appalling schedule of driving having taken drugs, and it is quite clear you are not to be trusted to be let anywhere near a car. I am prepared to give you a chance to stay out of custody."

Findlay was dealt with for six drug driving charges which he admitted.

As well as the life driving ban he was ordered to carry out a total of 300 hours of community work to be completed within two years as an alternative to jail.
