A POPULAR Ross-shire pub and restaurant has had to close it doors after a customer had a confirmed case of Covid.

The owners of the Mallard, in Station Square, Dingwall, said it was closing as a precaution, and staff had already been tested.

The customer was in the Mallard on Friday night.

Landlord Sean Kennedy said: "Unfortunately it has come to my attention that a customer who was in the pub on Friday night has today tested positive for Covid.

"Although we deep clean the pub every night I have taken the decision to close the pub until I receive guidance from NHS Scotland and all off the staff have been tested.

"I am doing this off my own back with the consideration of customers and staff safety paramount.

"I thank you for your understanding in this."

The decision was welcomed by locals who took to social media.

Trish Macleod said: "Well done Sean on doing so, hope you and all your staff are okay."

Ang Rickwood said: "Hope all staff well and look forward to visiting again when we can."

June Ross said: "Well done Sean, you have always put the safety of your staff first...hope everyone will be okay."

NHS Highland have been approached for comment.
