Lt Lorraine Wright from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Ross Company was recently presented with the Cadet Forces Medal.

The medal marks 12 years of service to the UK Cadet Forces and was presented at Company Training Weekend in Dingwall.

Lt Wright (50) who is the company’s Duke of Edinburgh Award Officer as well as the Vocational Qualifications Officer has been a member of the Battalion since November 2009.

Prior to taking on her two roles she was for nine years the Detachment Commander for Alness Detachment.

As the DofE Officer for the company Lorraine is responsible for ensuring that the cadets of Ross Company keep track of their progress on their award, on top of putting together expeditions – from paperwork to putting the relevant qualified staff in place – for the Exped section of the DofE Award which can see the cadets hillwalking and camping out in remote areas for two to four nights, depending on the level they are completing.

In Lorraine’s role as Vocational Qualifications Officer, she is responsible for promoting as well as enrolling cadets and adults on the various extra-curricular qualifications that the Army Cadets offer, from City & Guilds to SQA qualifications.

The medal was presented by the battalion’s Commandant Colonel Mike MacDonald, who also presented Lorraine with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.
