A Ross-shire drug addict who bit a police constable and attempted to bite nursing staff was placed under a restriction of liberty order for six months.

Raymond Marshall, previously from Dingwall but who has new accommodation in Portland Place in Inverness, appeared for sentence before Sheriff Gary Aitken on Thursday and will have to remain in his new flat between 7pm and 7am wearing an electronic tag.

The sentence will take effect from October 26 when he should have moved in and will be confirmed on that date, the Sheriff ruled.

He had previously admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court the police assault which occurred in New Craigs Hospital, Inverness on July 18, 2021.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting three nurses and a doctor by repeatedly attempting to bite them on the same date and same venue.

The 35-year-old was also sentenced on other offences which occurred in 2019.

He assaulted a man in Conon Bridge on October 19 of that year and then shouted and swore in Burnett Road Police Station, Inverness after being arrested.

But before that on June 6, he and another man turned up drunk at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness demanding to see a friend but were refused.

Marshall then continued to march through the hospital, including the Special Baby Unit, shouting and swearing.

Defence solicitor Douglas McConnell told Sheriff Gary Aitken that some of the offences were brought on by cannabis misuse.
