A WESTER Ross shinty club has today (Wednesday) netted a £50,000 grant from Highland Council.

The funding, which includes a £5,000 award from the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Discretionary Budget, will go towards a £361,540 project to develop a new site at Reraig, Balmacara as a sports playing field.

Members approved the funding at a meeting of the council’s resources committee.

The club is contributing £161,540 to the project and the outcome of an application to Sportscotland for £150,000 is pending.

The project will replace the current sub-standard pitch and relocate it to a more level site with safer access, adequate drainage and a full-size pitch which will be able to be used as a neutral venue for prestigious matches.

Badenoch and Strathspey councillor Dave Fallows, said it was a brave move for "a small club holding its head high".
