Nine people stopped by Highland police over the weekend in drink and drug driving crackdown with several incidents within Ross-shire

Highland police have revealed details of a weekend of action, including a number of incidents within Ross-shire that will result in reports being sent to the procurator fiscal.

Police have stopped nine people across the Highlands over the weekend in connection with alleged drink and drug driving offences.

Weekend patrols were carried out across the region in a bid to keep the streets safe.

Sergeant Neil Macdonald said: "Our pro-active patrols are part of our ongoing efforts to keep detecting those offenders who put all road users at risk.

"Road safety remains a priority for us and we want to reassure everyone we will respond to any concerns people may have while continuing to improve road safety in the Highland and Islands."

On Friday March, 11, a 29-year-old man was stopped by police on the B9169, Easter Kinkell, around 9.15pm and failed a roadside drug test.

And on Saturday (March 12), there were three more incidents.

One in Maryburgh around 1.30pm, which resulted in a 21-year-old man failing a roadside drug test.

Then later than evening, around 10.10pm, on the A832 Tarradale, a 21-year-old man failed a roadside drug test.

Finally a 22-year-old man was stopped by police on the A864 Bunchrew and also failed a roadside drug test.

Around 10pm on Saturday a man was stopped in his vehicle within Corpoch, Fort William while making deliveries.

The 51-year-old man was subsequently charged in connection with drink drive offences and has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

That same morning, around 3am, a 49-year-old man was approached by officers in Drummond, Inverness.

He too has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with drink drive offences.

On Sunday (March 13) a 19-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for drink driving offences following a single vehicle collision on the A9 by Georgemas Junction, Halkirk, around 5.45am.

Around 2.10pm, that same day, a 52-year-old man failed a drug wipe test in Avoch.

On the evening of Sunday, 13 March, officers stopped a 24-year-old male driver on the A835 Moanadh-Mor. He also failed a drug wipe test.
