A HOTEL worker who assaulted two sisters on a night out in the Wester Ross village has had his sentence deferred for background reports.

Daniel Stewart (23) of Moss Road, Ullapool had previously been a relationship with one of the women, who he met outside the Argyle Bar about 10.30pm on the evening of August 24 last year.

Depute fiscal Rowena Carlton said the women and the accused had all been drinking when they came in contact with each other outside the pub.

Stewart approached the women and an argument started. He seized hold of his former partner and they fell over a wall.

Stewart then sat astride her.

The woman's sister then began shouting at Stewart and he struck her in the face before seizing his ex by her wrist and neck.

Both women suffered from bruising.

Rory Gowans, solicitor, said Stewart, who admitted the assault, worked as a general assistant at a hotel in Gairloch and he had been going out with one of the sisters for about four weeks.

Mr Gowans said Stewart claimed comments had been made towards him by the former girlfriend's sister and they were hitting and pushing him. But he should have walked away.

"It was a flashpoint triggered by alcohol," said Mr Gowans.

Sheriff Robert Frazer heard Stewart had already completed a community payback order.

He deferred sentence until November 19 for background reports.
