THE prolonged repair of a burst water main which resulted in a month of disruption to a Ross-shire village has drawn to a close.

The High Street of Conon Bridge was hit by the burst back on June 26 with hopes high at that time that repairs would just take a week.

However excavations revealed the repair would prove more complicated than anticipated with input from SSEN after discovery of a high voltage power line.

The repairs necessitated closure of a section of the High Street close to the Conon Hotel.

A Scottish Water spokesman said the full reinstatement of the road and the footpath took a bit longer than hoped and extended over the weekend, but the road was able to re-open to normal traffic yesterday evening.

It's understood there is some minor follow-up work – replacing a fence – on private land but nothing likely to have any further impact on the road or the footpath.

The spokesman said: "We recognise that this road closure has been disruptive for customers in the area and would like to thank the local community and our partners for their patience and support while we’ve been working to complete the complex repair that was needed."
