A Ross-shire driver who started to overtake a lorry in the path of an oncoming vehicle was fined £200 at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Stephen Keith (53) also incurred three penalty points after he admitted a charge of careless driving which occurred on January 27.

The court was told that the oncoming driver slowed down and pulled into the side of the A9 on the Causeymire, to allow Keith, of Shore Street, Hilton of Cadboll, Fearn, adequate space to complete his manoeuvre safely.

The accused, a first offender, was said to have accepted that he made an error of judgement.
