A WESTER Ross development trust has received £24,000 from the Supporting Communities Fund to help assist local programmes during lockdown.

The Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) will use the cash on three continuing programmes – its Growing in the Community scheme, Be-friending programme, and local foodbank operations.

Growing in the Community has been using the raised beds behind the GALE Centre, the school plots while they remain closed, and at their plot at Good For Ewe.

The Be-friending programme has been making calls to people where visiting has not been possible during lockdown.

The local Highland Foodbank operations, meanwhile, have included a collection point at the GALE Centre, efforts to transport food through volunteers, and the distribution of three-day ration bags to any local home that has been referred to them through social services.

For more information visit the GALE Facebook page.
