Young patients facing a hospital stay over the festive period were cheered up by a visit from a number of Ross County FC players.

Team members attended the Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital on Wednesday with some goodies, meeting youngsters including Dawson Duffus (7), from Nairn.

Ross County manager Malky Mackay said: “It’s important that we as a club continue to play our part in our local community. It’s something that our chairman is extremely passionate about and has, over the years, supported the Highlands and Islands in so many ways, and spending some time at Raigmore can make a real difference at this time of year.

“You see the smiles on faces and you get the opportunity to take peoples’ minds away from the hard issues for a couple of hours and it really is humbling for the players and myself.”

Players also met staff at the unit this week.

He added: “We as a club also want to thank the NHS Highland staff and the Archie Foundation team who put in tireless amounts of work to look after the patients and their families all year round. Without their dedication, commitment and passion things would be a lot harder for these families in such a rural part of the world.”
