A planning application for a small hair salon in the garden of a home in Rosemarkie is being considered by Highland Council.

The proposal, made in the name of Mrs Kathleen Green and her husband, includes the erection a small timber garden room to the rear of 12 Gollanhead Avenue.

The couple are also seeking permission to form off-street parking for two cars at the front of their home, although it was said in their design statement that any salon customers would be asked to use the public parking area a short walk away.

The statement added: “The salon building is very modest in scale and will fit in the rear garden comfortably. The applicant intends to have a maximum of five clients per day.

“The applicants acknowledge the parking pressure in this area of Rosemarkie – when the development was constructed in the 1950's, the levels of private car ownership was very low.

“This is reflected in the low number of parking bays meaning on-street parking is the only way home owners can park their vehicles near their properties unless private driveways are constructed.

“A number of home owners in the immediate vicinity have resorted to constructing driveways to alleviate the parking pressures.”

A decision on the application is pending.
