The A890 road will be closed overnight on Saturday to allow essential maintenance at Strathcarron level crossing on the Kyle of Lochalsh line.

Immediately adjacent to Strathcarron station, work which will include a full corrosion inspection will see the road closed at the crossing from 10pm until 7am on Sunday morning.

There will be no vehicular access over the crossing between these hours except for emergency vehicles.

Properties close to the crossing may also be inconvenienced and Network Rail thanked owners in advance for their patience.

Lee Ross, the firm’s infrastructure maintenance delivery manager, said: “The planned work at Strathcarron level crossing is unavoidable and the safest and quickest way to do what is needed is to close the road.

“The crossing equipment and surrounding track is regularly monitored as part of Network Rail’s rolling maintenance and inspection programme to ensure that it is safe and operating as designed.

“While we appreciate the short-term impact of this work is inconvenient, the long-term benefit is that it helps minimise overall disruption for both passengers and road users and helps us to deliver a reliable and resilient railway.”

Anyone with any questions related to the work can call Network Rail’s 24-hour helpline on 03457 11 41 41 or email via its website at www.networkrail.co.uk/contactus
