A boat's call for help sparked a call-out for the RNLI's Kessock lifeboat on Sunday afternoon.

The crew were scrambled at 12.33pm to reports that an angler had spotted a vessel which was signalling it was in trouble in Munlochy bay.

"The crew launched and made best speed to the bay in good conditions, where they found [the] Inverness Spirit standing by in the deeper water monitoring the vessel," said an RNLI spokesman.

"The crew made contact with the casualty to find their battery had died and they had no VHF or working mobile phone on board.

"The [vessel] was towed to Avoch Harbour and the lifeboat returned to station ready for its next launch.

"The angler did the right thing by calling 999 and requesting the coastguard. We would urge people who are on the water to always ensure they have a means of contact, whether that be a mobile phone or VHF radio and to always wear a life jacket."
