WHEN the legendary 24-hour Strathpuffer endurance event was cancelled because of Covid, cycling pals Greg Drew and Norman Agnew decided to take on a new challenge.

The Strathpeffer event – gruelling circuits of forest tracks in muddy, often sub-zero temperatures and up to 17 hours of darkness – isn’t for the faint-hearted. And nor is the alternative they will tomorrow saddle up for in aid of Invergordon RNLI.

The dynamic duo intend cycling John O’Groats to Land’s End – and back – in just 12 days.

The aptly titled Two Wheel Ordeal is payback for the amazing support of the Invergordon crew at Strathpuffer events and to raise awareness of their life-saving role.

Mr Drew said: “Their dedication, motivation, and spirit is something we have always found amazing and are very thankful for.”

The cycling-mad duo plan leaving John O’Groats on Saturday at 6am, arriving in Land’s End six days later before turning right around and heading back to Groats for an August 5 arrival.

Invergordon RNLI’s Michael MacDonald said “The challenge set out by Greg and Norman is something to be admired on physical and mental demands, not to
mention the mileage involved, but does show our supporters will
travel the length of the country and back again to support the RNLI, which is funded by donations, where crews are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week ready to answer the call. We wish them all the best and look forward to their updates.”
