OIL rig workers have donated almost £2000 to lifesavers in Invergordon after a fundraising raffle aboard their North Sea home from home.

Shelf Drilling recently handed £1900 to RNLI’s Invergordon lifeboat crew after raising the funds over the festive season aboard the rig.

Darren Richardson, rig manager with Shelf Drilling, handed over the money during a presentation on the bow of the Invergordon RNLI crew’s lifeboat ‘Agnes AP Barr’.

The crew of the jack-up drilling rig ‘Shelf Drilling Fortress’ raised £1923.50 and €53 as part of the crew Welfare and Recreational Committee Christmas Fundraising Raffle.

Invergordon RNLI coxswain Andrew Murray, who was on hand to accept the donation, said: ‘We are very grateful and wish to express our thanks to Darren and his crew on-board the Shelf Drilling Fortress for their efforts in raising such an incredible amount and generously donating this amount to the charity.

“This donation will help us save lives at sea and assist with volunteer crew training,” he added.
