REVIEW: Breabach at Ullapool Village Hall

CONTEMPORARY Scottish folk band Breabach delighted a sold-out Ullapool Village Hall in an event put in by The Ceilidh Place on Friday night.

The mini-tour of the Highlands - which also included dates in Findhorn and Glenelg - was supported by Scotland on Tour.

It was a welcome return to the Wester Ross village for the band, comprising Megan Henderson (fiddle, vocals, step dance), James Lindsay (double bass, vocals), Calum MacCrimmon (bagpipes, whistle, bouzouki, vocals), Conal McDonagh (bagpipes, whistle, vocals) and Ewan Robertson (guitar, vocals, cajon). Breabach's upbeat music had many of the audience on their feet and dancing.

In their 15 years, Breabach have respected the origins of the music the play whilst embracing the future with new ideas, energy and a self-belief which drives their music.They have released six albums, while collaborating with indigenous Australasian artists, Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord, and as artists-in-residence at 2019’s Celtic Colours festival with Cape Bretoners, Beolach.

A lively performance in Ullapool revealed the pedigree which has seen the band pick up an array of accolades to date.
