A moving tribute to commemorate VE day has been posted on line by staff at a care home in Tain.

The video, taken by staff during the coronavirus restrictions sees many of the residents singing the song We'll Meet Again made famous by the forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn during World War Two.

Residents in two of the Parklands Care Homes facility Innis Mhor in Tain and Netherha Care Home in Buckie, shared their own poignant VE Day tribute.

As the residents sing the song, it serves as a reminder that many of them have not seen family and friends for more than eight weeks.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the Victory in Europe Day, known as VE day when the war in Europe came to an end.

On this day in history, the then Prime Minister, Winston Churchill said people might be able to allow themselves a celebration that the war for Britain was over, yet fighting in other parts of the world continued.

In the evening people gathered on the streets to celebrate the end of the war.

Celebrations had been planned for the UK, with the bank holiday being moved to allow a long weekend for the country. But due to coronavirus restrictions, people have instead been asked to hold an afternoon tea party at home.

Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth is due to speak to the nation on television and radio at 9pm this evening.
